Saturday’s Sketchnote Lab Live workshop was a huge success! 63 spots were reserved, and 33 attended the live event!

After reading the initial brief and discussing the details of a problem my friend Brad brought to the session, we had a live client discussion, and I worked on a sketchnote to solve it in real time.

The Q&A period was great. We saw samples from attendees, while comments and suggestions furthered the possible solutions. It was fun, and it made me want to do another session!

Here are a few comments from attendees:

“I had so much fun with this workshop! Thank you to Brad for sharing his inspirational journey and to Mike for working through Brad's challenge on paper. Thank you so much for making this available. Great work!” — Brooke

“Thank you. Really enjoyed seeing you work through the problem.” — Eric

“I learned a lot, and time flew. You listen well.” — Toni

“I joined late and still got many good ideas, insights, and recommendations. Thank you’d to Mike and Brad.” — Jim

Here’s a 5-minute teaser from the 1-hour live session:

Sketchnotes from the session

Below are my sketchnotes created during the session with all subscribers, so you can see the kind of sketchnotes I think can help move projects forward.

Sketchnote Part 1: Problem Overview and Current State

Here’s my sketchnote mapping of how I perceived the problem after reviewing the brief and talking with Brad about the issue he presented. He shared an idea that had become overwhelming, shelved it, but the zombie project keeps reappearing.

The second sketchnote lays out Brad's current state in the session, along with some questions I asked to reveal other details I could work with in the ideation phase.

Watch the video below to see how these sketchnotes unfolded during the session.

Sketchnote Part 2: Ideation and Definition

My final sketchnotes include ideas for how we might solve the challenge and practical steps for Brad to move the project forward with a simpler zine instead of a huge book.

This included constraints on time and deliverables to prevent the project from expanding and becoming overwhelming before he could deliver an MVP to test.

Watch the video below to see how these sketchnotes unfolded during the session.
